While I was coincidentally building/finishing my walls around the fortress to prevent shit like this from happening, I get this message.


The Hydra Civila Fafiresali Delado Ayilo has come!


Immediately, I called my only remaining dwarf outside to come back in and seal up the doorway with walls so the Hydra couldn't break in, and ordered my Siege Engineers to haul out the Catapults. After I gave the orders, I went to observe the progress of the Hydra, and I was met with the most anti-climactic event I've yet to see.




It died right as it came into the region...

Actually, I'm not as sadistic... towards my own fortress, anyways. I try to make sure every dwarf is happy and every mandate is fulfilled. Last thing I want to see is my fortress clobbered, which is why I was building the wall in the first place.

If the horror stories I hear is correct, this may all fall to pieces with the arrival of the Baroness just now. We'll have to see.

Same with me, and I usualy like to capture the Megabeasts and give them their own personal pit that I through prisoners into. I've only had one mega beast come in with wounds, it was missing an eye. so Im guessing mangled heart and when it showed up the wound started bleeding.

Can you check the hydra's history in legends mode to find out what might've been the cause of sudden death?

Ahh, thanks to df, sadism, and masochists, are now one, it is called, AWESOME!!!

If it were alive, I'd train it and armor it, so it could eat the prison purged. ( making a water purging system for the prison, either it's prison sentence, or being called an escapee that got killed by a megabeast )

I just checked. The legends says he bled to death, and the most recent fight he had before then was about 9 years ago with a dwarf (The dwarf survived the fight).

Hahaha, hydras usualy dont fare so well, but thats just thats just plain pathetic. Never did a H look so sad.

I guess it received some wound that didnt kill it in worldgen, but did kill it fortress mode?

Worldgen must check bleeding out differently then fortress mode.

You could use dwarf companion to take a look at it. The dead will still be listed, along with their wounds at the time of death.

Hydras in world gen don't die, if you cut off only one of their heads.
Hydras on fortress mode do die, if you cut off only one of their heads.

I once had a liaison from a neighboring civ kick the bucked before he had gotten ten tiles from the edge of the map.  There was a slight trail of blood and very annoying, as I recall.
