Multi Z-level ramps
« on: November 28, 2009, 10:34:56 am »

Hey, how would I make a ramp for a caravan that goes down about 7 z-levels?  Because when I tried making one they mine about 1/3 ramps and 2/3 open spaces, trapping themselves in.  So wtf?

EDIT:  OK, just realized something, is there anyway to flip the direction of the ramps so I don't have a rampway 7 tiles long?

Your rampway will be 7 tiles long, unless you make it spiral shaped.

Still, ramps are allways only 1 z-level high. It wouldnt realy make sense if dwarves could walk on anything steeper.

I make Grimlocke's History & Realism Mods. Its got poleaxes, sturdy joints and bloomeries. Now compatible with DF Revised!

So you need to make a platform between each set of ramps.

Code: [Select]
^^^  = up ramp
...
...  = ground
...
vvv  = down ramp

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

Hey, I'm cool with you tying a dog up and shooting it with a ballista if you're short on elves, but there's not need to lie about it to us.

There doesn't need to be a platform.
Code: [Select]
^^^
vvv
This works fine. If you claim it doesn't I can show you pics of the depot access view in a tunnel that is both exited and entered via multiple levels of up/down ramps.

But then, life was also easier when I was running around here pretending to be a man, so I guess I should just "man up" and get back to work.

Yeah, I ended up doing this:
Code: [Select]
(viewed from the side)
_
X\
XX\
XXX\
XXXX\
XXXXX\
XXXXXX\
XXXXXXX\

_=floor
\=Ramp
X=wall

For all 7 layers and it works fine.

Yeah, wagons are very strange creatures.

The middle of the wagon will sit on the 3x1 ramp, with the horses jutting into the rock.

Just be careful you don't have magma behind your ramps though, the horses/mules/whatevers will catch on fire.

And if you end up constructing any of the ramps make sure you construct a wall behind them.
