So if a food stockpile is full of barrels... then there's no place to put the stack of Dwarven Syrup Roasts [33]. Set a food stockpile with no barrels allowed in it, that should fix ya.

You might want to put that stockpile closer to the trade depot while you're at it. I have bought entire caravans with a single stack(in the 70+ range, but still) of masterfully prepared food.

Isn't it 15?

And cooking meals from large stacks is an excellent way of conserving barrel space. You can condense 2 or 3 barrels (more, depending) into a one stack.
