It wasn't my fault I swear!
« on: November 22, 2009, 01:47:16 am »

It's been 2 years since embarking, first human caravan shows up, I praise Armok, hoping for much needed supplies. Then a siege happens. Playing with the Orc mod, and these orcs pretty much ripped apart their guards. Thank the gods, they provided enough time for someone to raise the bridge.

Quick question, will this effect the humans coming back? Only about half of them died really.

EDIT: Just kidding the humans are all dead now.

They should still arrive next year.  Should.

If the liaison died, you're probably going to get sieged. I had a human liaison die long before he reached my fortress (because he was missing a leg and kept passing out) and was sieged in retaliation.

Yea, losing a liason sucks. In my current game, I lost mine to a gobbo ambush right at the entrance. He had no chance even though he tried to run for it.

The guy wasn't bieng particularily useful because he only sent a few bits of wood, not the 40+ I wanted, and I haven't done a game with a dead liason, so I decided to continue with it.

He got into my fort, and we even exchanged some words, I told him what I wanted next year. I don't think my fort will be able to handle a human siege. Will they ever be friendly again?

OK, so what happened? Were you sieged? Did you get new caravans?

They'll eventually send a diplomat to make peace.
...I'm not sure if you need to have some rank of noble first, though.

I'm curious what the barely conscious ai wrote about.
Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.

I meant that it was my own civs liason, not the human liason. Losing your own dwarven liason won't affect the caravans, but I think it means that the next time you play that civ, you won't have a liason.

I've been mulling turning off invasions so that I can at least get some extra wood without bieng harrassed too much and until I get my TC farm up. Still have to reveal the UG river and then somehow pump water to the TC farming area. However I think I'll leave invasions on.

Been waiting for another migration wave because I need the haulers I have atm.

Yea, I lost my civ's liaison as well. Sad thing is, my soldiers were already heading to escort him (I figured since I hadn't seen an orc siege yet there had to be a damn ambush or 7 on the map), but he walked right into them. Really sucks since the map has no wood and my tower cap farm is pitifully slow. A year in and I have four logs to show for it. Granted, the UG plants were worth it, they saved my fortress from starvation and a tantrum spiral, but still, damn slow growing mushrooms.

If the liaison survived, the humans won't siege but they probably will send a much smaller caravan next year. The caravan size is based on the profit they made, and if they lost the caravan their profit is negative (they calculate profit based on what goes out minus what goes in, since they got nothing and sent a caravan, it looks bad).

Well they showed up again. At the same time another orc siege happened... They pretty much do have the worst timing.
