The Mace of Armok
« on: November 20, 2009, 03:48:17 pm »

So a while back I asked for ideas of what to do with my location, someone suggested Obsidian tower and it's coming along nicely. However I'm making it into a giant mace and intend it to widen a great deal near the top. I have 41 more Z levels to play with to begin tapering it out.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That's the basic layout for the bottom 23 levels for the shaft. I want it to start expanding now but what would be the bext way to expand on it? Circular? Start making it a diamond like <>?

Also I need something that allows me to keep the central spire (waterfall [Also Noble dumping]) and to pump magma along a + or x section to the edges to pour out occasionally.

PS: I was going to post a pic, but as the shaft is in the bottomless pit I can't find a good enough angle to show it off. I think once my new miners (All 5 of my previous ones died in related accidents) are trained up a bit i'll be regulating the size of the pit...

I think the "flanged mace" look, with a curved point coming off of each side, would work best.  You could just continue the shaft up through the head then.  I'm basing this off of the main image for the Wikipedia mace article.  The flanges are nice and flat / rectangular in all dimensions except for the curve, so it should work pretty well.  Alternately, you could make it a cubical "head" with a square pyramid coming off of each side.  That makes it nicely angular and preserves the desired pointy striking-head with support behind it.

I always thought that "The Mace of Armok" was a Megaproject Fortress Defense where you construct a huge mace outside the entrance of your Fortress, which (when triggered by lever or pressure-plate) will fall on an enemy siege and crush it to bloody smears.

Extra coolness points for casting it out of Obsidian and filling it with liquid Magma.
