Draw Bridges and Trading
« on: November 21, 2009, 07:27:24 pm »

I've had to enclose my little dwarven colony inside the great mountains, orcs and goblins won't leave me alone. Only entrance is through a draw bridge. If this is up when the traders come, will the caravans not follow along? I don't feel safe keeping it down all the time.

The caravans will still come, but they won't bring any wagons.

Station the military just outside it, and have it hooked to a lever near the meeting area, THEN you can keep it down most of the year.

A tendon in the skull has been torn!
The Raven has been knocked unconcious!

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

I just keep the trade depot outside of my fortress and then only lower the bridge when it is time to trade.  That way I dont have to worry about forgetting and not getting wagons.
