Boiling Metals?
« on: December 01, 2009, 05:53:07 am »

Is this possible? The wiki lists magma as having a temperature of 12,000 Urists, while Zinc has a boiling point of 11,633 Urists, so it as at least theoretically possible.

Hey, I'm cool with you tying a dog up and shooting it with a ballista if you're short on elves, but there's not need to lie about it to us.

Hm, even so, I suppose it doesn't fill the air with noxious fumes, and instead only disappears?

Considering that materials like metal that sublime at 0 degrees freeze nearby creatures to death, wouldn't extremely hot metal vapors deal heat damage to nearby dwarves?

Yes, zinc will boil in magma. In fact, it's specifically noted on the page for zinc.
If, somehow, the magma didn't set everything on fire, the cloud of boiling zinc would probably inflict some horrific damage to whatever was nearby.

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Boiling metal? Boiling iron? Hmmm... I wonder if someone can get a melted metal coating. You know... before they die.

To the dorf pulling the lever, the lever is just a lever. The magma pouring out of the mountainside is just a coincidence. To the dorf designing a pump stack from the magma sea, it is just that: a pump stack. No specific reason for it. It will never do anything.
for reasons best knows to themselves, the elves decided to explode

Having a pool of liquid metal for coating dwarves, goblins, elves, and other objects would be pretty awesome.

I've seen zinc boil in some caravans I was frying, at that point I officially deemed magma my favourite.

I had a metal cap as an SOF adventurer. Then I had an iron covering on my head.
