Things you miss from older versions
« on: November 20, 2009, 12:34:05 pm »

While the game has clearly improved drastically over time, are there any things you miss that were found in old versions?

I miss the sheer cliffs (I'm think about version .38).  My favourite fort ever had 5 or 6 plateaus (accross an only 3X4 space), and I embarked directly on top of a sheltered magma vent.  It had this opening from about 0-90 degrees so it was the perfect sheltered location, and the terrain around it was nice and grassy with lots of trees growing.  It had flux and endless supplies of iron, and a chasm.

He's invited people to come along and experience the journey with him (and help him test it out as he goes along). At the end of the day, I don't think his main goal is to sell Dwarf Fortress, its just to create the best game possible.

But then, life was also easier when I was running around here pretending to be a man, so I guess I should just "man up" and get back to work.

I've got my first 2d fortress going right now, and getting a huge kick out of little things like being told that the river ice is beginning to thaw, or the traders telling you that you need to build a road to attract humans.
