How do I get my hermit dwarf to eat?
« on: November 18, 2009, 12:14:14 am »

Seriously, the means to make some food (2 animals) are right there, but my dwarf is starving because she won't stop trying to hunt vermin. And she ain't going to find any, because there's 7 cats bouncing around the map. Any idea how I can get her to stop hunting vermin, or cheat and restore her energy? Tweak doesn't work on 40d16, DF Companion doesn't work for unknown reasons. What should I do?

...why are there cats there?  Do they just belong to migrants who wandered in?  Probably shoulda had the other migrants butcher the cats.  As for solving your problem...  unless there's a utility that can fix it, she's pretty much dead.  I don't know much about most of the utilities, though.

There's cats because I thought it would be a fun idea to have a hermit with a cat obsession. I just inserted NO_EAT into the RAWs for dwarves, so I've solved the starvation problem for now. However she still won't stop trying to hunt for vermin.

Aaaand it looks like she stopped, for no apparent reason. Problem solved, I guess, but if anyone wants to give me some future advice...

I suspect that the job priority on "Hunt vermin" exceeds any job you can create, hence why you couldn't get her to do something more useful.

As for why the job wouldn't end immediately, at a guess it has a time limit -- she hunts for 1000 frames and then looks for other food, say. In this case, after the 1000 frames (or however many it is) were up, she went "Oh, wait, I don't actually have to eat any more. Okay."
