Multiple barracks
« on: November 17, 2009, 04:43:30 pm »

I currently have two barracks, one on either side of the courtyard leading to the main entrance of my fort. My military dwarves, mostly guards right now as my regular military dwarves would dismember them, tend to switch between them en mass rather than splitting evenly. Is there a way to get them to use them equally or would I be better off just replacing one with another archery range?

I know when you said 'beard' you were probably referring to the hair growing on the dwarf's face, but... AGH... MY EYES...!

That's odd. How many squads do you have? Lower-downs will always follow squad leaders, if they can at least. You might try dividing them up a little. I'm not sure if subordinates will still follow leaders when they're off-duty, but it's worth a shot.

the problem isn't getting them to spar, it's getting to use both barracks at the same time. They will use the left one for awhile and then switch to the right one for awhile. All for no good reason, at least not one that I can find. Maybe if I split them into 2 giant squads and assign the barracks to the leaders? I never remember to put my guard into squads so they are all still in their individual squads.

The lower ranked dwarves will always follow the leader, even when off duty.(Only exceptions are sleeping, eating, drinking, resting injury)

That said, I am not sure if assigning a barracks to a military leader works, and remember reading something in the to-do list about assigning barracks to squads. I think when this gets done you will also be able to set sparring areas. For now though, you're probably stuck with dwarves randomly deciding where they want to spar.

What kind of statues are your masons making, that you think they have "maximum exposure"?
(Full frontal ones, apparently.  With very short beards.)

Assigning barracks to squads is a feature that will be in the next version.
