Bauxite Substitute
« on: November 16, 2009, 01:02:34 am »

I embarked on a map with no bauxite (or adamantine), and only discovered this after doing a lot of work that I don't want to lose. Is there a way that I can mod the game to allow for some bauxite substitute for making mechanisms? Maybe raising the temperature on rock so that all mechanisms are magma-safe?

All rocks have a predefined melting point in the raws.  Bauxite just happens to be the one that can survive magma.  Go into the raws and change the melting and boiling points at whatever you need to.  Reference the wiki if you need to.

OK, thanks. Will that work for existing saves, or will I have to start over?

I believe you'll be fine.  Generally, modifying existing raw entries does not require a regen.

Also, the "Do I need to regen" thread:

Here is a mod that does what you need, giving rocks realistic melting points vs magma. You could look through its raws and copy the melting points to your own if you like.

I recommend using using the molten rocks mod forsaken just posted; if only because Alunite is one of the rocks that becomes magma-safe, finally making it useful.

You could also change the reaction_standards so that you could create some bauxite through "transmutation"
