Seige/personality questions.
« on: November 15, 2009, 07:13:19 pm »

I have two quick questions I've been wondering about.
1.  Got my population to 88 and still I've hadn't had any ambushes or seiges, maybe it's my low value, 323k wealth and 18k exported wealth. I have them in my civ's list because I had a goblin snatcher come, but only once.
2.  Went reading on my military leader's personality and at the end it said 'He is getting used to tragedy.'  What does this mean?  That he won't tantrum as much if he gets unhappy?  If so then yay!  More tragedy's for everyone :P

Only in dwarven culture is alcohol poisoning a death worthed investigating, while being impaled through several toes, a eye, and a thumb from a spiraling water[3] is not.  Because everyone knows, the only way a dwarf could get alcohol poisoning is if someone put poison into the alcohol.

1: Dunno...  but no ambushes at all is rather odd.  And only one snatcher?  Most odd.
2: It means he's getting used to other dwarves dying.

So he stops getting upset when friends/family die?
Good, I guess.  If he's friends with anyone who gets hurt beyond a yellow (Unless they heal super quick) they're going to die, only one murky pool on my map, which is dry and I've only seen it rain once :(

Ew.  Unless you intend to go completely without water, don't embark somewhere where you won't have another water source.  They're very unreliable, especially in places where they dry out.  Though I suppose if you have temperature turned off, it's not a huge problem.

Tempature's on.
I didn't even think about turning it off, wish I did, I was planning to have a tunnel going to from it to a cistern and storing it underground, now it's all evaported, only seen it rain once and the same day it evaporated away.

Hmm.  Just got first seige, with no ambushes beforehand.

Odd.

Is your fort setup so that it's closed -- invaders from the outside can't path to the inside?  It could be you've had ambushes but they've never "appeared" because they couldn't path to your dwarves.

Also, you can manufacture vomit at a smelter.  Subsequently removing the smelter spews vomit over a surprising area.

Just a heads up, "Getting used to tragedy" also causes dwarves to drink more. It's useful, but you don't want your whole fort to have it unless you want to double or even triple your booze production.
