Dragon Lair Mode
« on: November 09, 2006, 12:02:00 pm »

Similar to dwarf fortress but with only one unit, the dragon  :)

The imagination can go wild from there, start off as just a small whelp and slowly burrow out a lair in which you can grow and fill with treasure. Leaving the lair would switch the game to adventure mode where you can go raiding towns and ruins for further treasure. As your notoriety grows stalwart adventurers would come knocking, requiring traps, minions and one on one combat. Trade agreements can be made exchanging gold, food, goods and even virgins for "protection" or perhaps artifacts manufactured by your minions. Endgame content could consist of raising a new brood of dragon whelps, which fly out to cause further havoc  :)

Stuff like this is already in the development notes; along with groovy stuff like human town/elf retreat/wizard tower modes.

You should read through them and blow your mind!

Yeah it was the wizard mode that gave me the idea, just a variant on that theme really.

MONSTER: Playing the dragons and other large beasts seems like another good (and fairly easy) extension. You'd have to be careful, since there aren't very many large beasts in the world and you don't want to just possess them and have them all burn out in a blaze of glory. Or maybe you do... or it could just give you new ones. You could also just occasionally have fun going out on an excursion and retiring, then play an adventurer and take a quest from a town to go and dispatch your old self.
