Collisions?
« on: November 06, 2009, 09:17:51 pm »

Has anyone ever tried using drawbridges to fling objects and see how they react with collisions? With walls or each other?

Like if you put two drawbridges on opposite sides of a single-tile wide corridor and have them fling rocks at each other? Has anyone ever tried that?

They don't fling. They scatter. And no, things only collide with the walls, the ceiling, and the floor.

Meh...big deal...just pit fifty of them into a single tile down a few z-levels and atom smash them at the bottom.  It's close enough.

So even if they only have one direction to go in, the movement is still random?

Even if you could get them to cross paths I think they would go right through each other. Technically flying objects don't "exist" in the physical sense, at least until they land.

You all do know that we everytime we gen a world in DF, a new universe is created somewhere, and everytime we delete a save we kill a whole world?
Aye, we are Armok, god of blood, evil, villager gutting, fortress building, legend making and elf thongs.

You COULD make a small room where you dump the goblins. and build up pressurized water in rooms connected, and then release and have water crash unto them from two sides simultaneously. or maybe 4 sides. :)

That is correct.  An object flung by a drawbridge will move in a random direction until it runs out of momentum or hits a barrier.  It will take no damage from this collision.  Then, if over empty space, it will fall.
