@ Brenoink, in regards to the first page, and I'm not here to be polite with you, you have been warned.

For starters, don't ever presume to speak for anyone else, or to give a judgment as to what has motivated the actions of another person. Personally, I'm 100% happy with the features going into the game, the progress Toady has made, and the effort he has made to give updates on said progress. I've followed this patch for a long time and played DF since it was far less playable than it is now, and I have seen consistent improvements and features I've requested get put into the game. Yes, this patch has been in development for a long time. But it's a game being worked on by 1 dude and his brother. Nobody said you have to give him money, in fact, you probably ought not to because you aren't happy. But I am, and thus I do, and have, and continue to.

I've gotten over 500 hours of enjoyable gameplay out of Dwarf Fortress and I can't say the same about -any- retail game I spent $50 on, not even simulations like Simcity 2000 or any of the Civilization games. The new stuff going in is exactly the new stuff I want, and I could give a rat's ass about milking cows because if a Dwarf shows up at my fort calling himself a Milker, I put a mining pick in his hand and slap him on the ass a good one before banishing him to the quarry. You want to be able to milk cows in dwarf fortress? You stuck on that piddling of a fucking issue? Put your money where your mouth is and contribute to development. DF Donations are nearly 100% of Toady's income and living costs money--food, gas, registration and insurance, rent, utilities, internet service, phone service, and that is to say nothing of luxuries or unexpected expenses incurred by accidents.

Go ahead and choose to focus on the negatives of this game, or on your personal dislikes, but if your beliefs require reinforcement in the form of seeking attention from others who behave differently, or if you think you accomplish anything by trying to convince us NOT to donate, then your beliefs must not be very strong or productive in their effects. You feel the need to convince others that the game isn't worth the money we're donating? Fuck the hell off, you don't know me, and I consider you extremely ignorant after giving everything you had to say an honest read, you're the last person I'll be taking advice from. I also consider this a really dick thread to post because you dump on the hundreds and hundreds of hours this dude spends working on the game because you perceive that the results of that work don't measure up to what you expect, so clearly he's slacking off. I'd like to see you sit and work on the same code project for 6 years and accomplish as much as Toady has.

Stink up someone else's community, you clearly dislike the game and its designer and you aren't offering anything positive to the discussion. Also, way to be jealous that your machine doesn't run DF very well. If you give a shit, get a job and upgrade your hardware. When you turn 16 maybe.

I don't want to shut down a criticism thread (I would have locked this a long time ago otherwise on account of all the name-calling and general misery), but we've had plenty of criticism threads that haven't gone this sour so quickly.  Lots of moderator reports received...  and lots of cheese apparently.  I think it'd be possible to have this discussion with a more carefully constructed OP, but as it stands this thread is quite broken.
