new programming project NethackOS
« on: November 24, 2009, 10:24:21 am »

I've begun work on a new way to run linux, through nethack, it would create tools from the executable files, and connect their function and action to the monsters(which would represent the files on the system through various statistical analysis). and of course, if you died(killed by /users/jaked/Documents/pr0n.mv4)

Will it delete the files when you kill them?
Kidding.
Seriously, though, if you found some way to generate maps based on the directory structure, that would be awesome. Perhaps each level could be a folder and have a staircase down to each subfolder and a staircase up to its parent folder. Then the actual files in each folder could be represented by monsters, items, and other things like fountains and thrones on that level, based on the file type.

There's already a game about killing a virus that bases your levels based on your folders structure.

I don't recall the name, though...

Your whole PC would be like a giant dungeon editor. Except editing would be ridiculous.
I could imagine somebody restructuring their PC completely. just to get a room full of loot.

EDIT: I don't think that game actually bases the levels off of your PC, if we're thinking of the same game.

EDIT: Was it a Kyle Gabler game?

No.  It definetly based the levels on the structure of your files and folders.  It even mentioned that the game wouldn't be as fun in a new computer because of the lack of intrincacy.  I have the design document (.doc) somewhere.

Lose/Lose?
EDIT: Oh, wait, no. That's not it.

This sounds like a neat idea. :)
Though it may take some time to access files.

Need:
-Creation of folders through digging down, maybe with a special scroll.
-Removal of folders(and all their contents) by collapsing the stairs from above.
-Scroll of mass teleportation(moves folderss/contents)

So if you enter a folder, any nearby files attack you?

How do you get armour and become stronger...
