The term starts to lose its meaning once you get beyond the Arab countries, and beyond Egypt. Egypt is part of Africa, sure, but it's more akin to the "middle east" than to Africa, really. The rest of North Africa, though, is another thing entirely; I wouldn't include that. You could say "the Arab world" which is bigger than what I'd call the middle east, or "the Muslim world" which is MUCH bigger.

Turkey is not middle eastern, Iran is not, Iraq is the last one, Afghanistan and Pakistan are definitely not. Israel /Palestine is.
