Play Red Storm Rising and realize the error of your ways.
To quote the heavy: "maybe. maybe."

But I seriously doubt I'll be overjoyed by semi-intelligent swim by wire torpedoes. I like oldskool, I like mechanical. And I DO know why ;)

The beauty of modern torpedoes is that they add a whole new layer to the deadly game of hide and seek that makes a good sub game.  I have never found another game that created the same tense anticipation that RSR did every time I had three torpedoes locked on me but had to hold back on flank speed until I had a solution.  Spooking before then would just leave the enemy free to attack again.  Modern torpedoes mean you can spook the enemy by taking a blind shot at him and he is more then eager to do the same to you.  The overall effect is to create a war of intelligence and guesswork, where every move you make carries a price.  My only regret is that there is no multiplayer but the AI does know very effective tactics and is quite deadly at the highest difficulties.

And most important of all: Sid Meiers

That's really not my cup of tea. I prefer the times when sub vs sub combat was far from real.
You're the hunter, fulltime, until you fire the first time.
From then on, everything goes, so you better make the first shot(s) count.

What can I say? I prefer "Das Boot" over "Hunt for Red October" ;D
