Walking on the bodies of my enemies
« on: November 19, 2009, 11:19:28 am »

I know seeing the dead bodies of friends has a bad effect on a dwarf's mood, but how about just goblin corpses? I've decided to let the bodies and severed limbs start piling up against my fortress walls as a testament to the many failed sieges against me and as a very graphic warning to whatever goblins may yet still be waiting in the hills, but I want to be sure this won't upset any of my dwarves who work outside.

I would fill it with Magma if there was any on my map... there isn't, so I'm filling it with Rhesus Macaques.

Haven't done that, but I have a stockpile in my entranceway set up to take only skulls, and through micromanagement I make sure that those skulls are goblin and kobold and nothing else. After a good siege or two, I have my entry paved in the skulls of my enemies. Their bones, of course, get turned into decorations and bolts, suitable for either trade or use.

Doesn't bother them unless it's causing miasma. Though I have a dwarf who likes "Goblin corpses", which is slightly disturbing but he always walks around ecstatic so presumably it's a good thing.

I've never done this myself, I usually haul them into a big stockpile on the top of my fortress where I process them en masse into bolts for my marksdwarves to train with. Never bothered my dwarves when they walked by it or even through it. Dwarves don't "see" per-se, they path and detect obstacles. Think of them like bearded ants, they don't care about something unless it's in their way or part of their job.

Yeah, got stockpiles for bones and rotting materials set up, I can keep them full with butchered kittens and puppies from inside my fort, I just quite like the idea of the entrance to my fort being steeped in dead goblins. So my military can look over them and remember the good times :)
