If I don't have a GCS in my chasm when I embark, will a new one ever spawn?

I have a really nice fortress site with a chasm, but there doesn't seem to be any GCS, or even regular cave spiders.

I used Dwarf Companion to check for a GCS, there was none at the beginning. Even after 4 game years there isn't one.

Well.. It seems that GCS do spawn (check the other thread in this subforum: 'I thought GCS were a rare rescource').
But.. There is a possibility that it is not true, due to human error on my behalf.
Let us know if you do eventually get a GCS, that would be valuable information.

It might be, however, that even assuming that GCS spawn, they only do so on maps where they initially existed. I know maps without gremlins or GCS never spawn them even upon reclaim, if such an example is applicable, which may hint that the creatures that exist in a site are at least partially tied to the site itself.
