Known Issues with Reclaiming?
« on: October 21, 2009, 08:20:20 am »

So one of my forts got destroyed by a tantrum spiral, and I want to reclaim it to see the chasm creatures swarming everywhere.

However, I've heard that there are some bugs with reclaiming, the main one being that magma buildings can't be built on reclaimed maps with magma pipes not immediately exposed to the surface. This is because the magma buildings are triggered by the discovery of the pipe rather than the presence of magma.

I'm worried that this may also apply to underground rivers. I had a tower cap forest in my pre-spiral fort, but if the bug affects the discovery of features, that would mean that no more tower caps would grow in it. Can someone confirm whether this is true or not?

The wiki doesn't say anything about this bug under rivers or reclaiming, but it doesn't seem to list the magma one either.

No clue if it's true (I've only ever reclaimed on maps with surface exposed magma), but it seems like it would take 5 minutes to make a copy of your data/save/region folder, load it up, abandon, reclaim, and find out.  Then you can tell us and/or update the wiki.

Also, you can manufacture vomit at a smelter.  Subsequently removing the smelter spews vomit over a surprising area.

Firstly, I did try that, but it turns out that upon reclaim soil reverts to the original surface, and ceases to be muddy. Trees do remain, but it would take a while to see if new ones grow.

Secondly, I wanted to make sure that someone didn't already know the answer, saving me the need to reflood, and wait the hour or so it would to determine that no new stuff is growing over the original plants.

Interestingly, unmuddied tower caps are green.
