Greetings, Legendary and Dabbling Modsdwarves alike!

I've been playing DF for about a year, and decided to try out modding, for a change.
After a bit of brainstorming with a fellow twisted mind, we'd decided to make KILLER PENGUINS FROM HELL. Exactly. Now, the killer penguins have been made, everything gameplay-wise works, BUT..
As I play with a graphic set *Equips flame-resistant coat*, my penguins look exactly like standard dwarves would look like with vanilla DF, graphics turned on (floating heads), while the dwarves still retain their graph-setted awesomeness. We decided to simply copy the graphset's dwarf image and re-draw penguins over it(work in progress), changing the names in the file. What am I doing wrong? As soon as I get some replies, i'll post details, link files and whatnot.
