Vermin... milking... and smelting vermin.
« on: September 09, 2009, 07:28:35 am »

OK, so I can't remember how, but I know smelting creatures only creates vermin versions.

...soo... if I smelt vermin cows, can I then actually milk them?
And how do I smelt vermin again?
So as not to cheat, is there a format for smelting a live animal (into its vermin form, say)?

Probably function like a cage I think, animal dragged in and all anyway:

[REACTION:<Insert reaction name here]
[NAME:<text name you want to see in game>]
[SMELTER]
[REAGENT:1:PET:NO_SUBTYPE:<insert raw tag of creature here, honestly not sure what you would put for indicating any creature, though you may get away with just CREATURE here admittedly for that>:NO_MATGLOSS]
[PRODUCT:100:1:PET:NO_SUBTYPE:<insert creature raw tag again for a specific though, CREATURE may work here again for a universal>:NO_MATGLOSS]

That should do it, id reccomend using specific creature tags, but I think there are mods around for any metal

This is DF. There is nothing that one cannot smelt if you're determined enough.

[PET] in reaction tags makes tame vermin.  It won't make a reaction use creatures or produce milkable vermin (you can't milk vermin once they are tame).

I suppose you could make shell coins then, that would be interesting. Hmm... mod the Elves to use wooden coins (assuming that would work).

so far, if there is a way, I havent gotten it to work as an entity currency. also, the value modifiers for bone to coin seem not to work well, or I've set them too low.

You must tell me! How does one make blocks of bone? I can't remember what I need to put in the reaction to do it >w<"

[REACTION:BONE_BLOCKS_YAY]
[NAME:make bone blocks]
[SMELTER]
[REAGENT:1:BONES:NO_SUBTYPE:BONE:NO_MATGLOSS]
[PRODUCT:1:1:BLOCKS:NO_SUBTYPE:BONE:BONE_CREATURE]
[FUEL]

and define BONE_CREATURE as a creature named something like "processed" and that does not show up in the wilderness.

Pretty sure that won't work, since PET is used specifically for tame vermin - you cannot use a living creature as a reagent, and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to use cages containing the specific creature since it'd just see it as a cage. You could possibly define the reagent to be a CORPSE, making it so you'd have to kill the cow (or let it die of old age) and then resurrect it as a milkable vermin.

Also, the product must be "[PRODUCT:100:1:VERMIN:NO_SUBTYPE:(creature raw tag, such as COW):NO_MATGLOSS]" in order for it to be milkable, and you'd also have to add the [MILKABLE:xxxxx] tag to the creature in question.

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

If you gave them a biome then the Elves may indeed start turning up with Wagons in cages.
Well, it does tie in to the fact that personality-wise, dragons are nothing more than gigantic, scaly, firebreathing cats.
