The idea being that you sacrifice one dwarf (boiling leather!) for an adamantine warhammer. Seems dwarfy.

Problem is, the warhammer part doesn't work, though watching boiling leather bubble out from the smelter and freezing dwarfs is funny. Does the [ITEMCORpSE] tag not work on vermin, or am I doing it wrong?

I don't know if itemcorpse works for vermin, but you are missing part of the war hammer tag: ITEM_WEAPON_HAMMER_WAR is what is in the weapons file, your creature is missing ITEM_

Hrm. Changed that, still no difference.

Does anyone know if there's a way to make this work?

I think vermin are basically items themselves, so the code doesn't like giving them an item corpse.
