Only Thomas Edison wrote an orginal movie.

All of the others are just knockoffs of his technology.

Thomas Edison was a jerk and not even that smart.
He actually thought that movies were a horrible idea.
He thought nobody would want to sit in front of a screen and watch a moving picture.

And Mark Twain thought telephone were a horrid idea that would never take off.

King Kong and Godzilla went through exact remakes. I don't really mind the new versions. I do mind The Grudge and The Omen, because they sucked.

I also don't mind Avatar, which copied a plot entirely, then remade everything to try and look different.

It's worth noting that "Repo Men" is not a remake of "Repo! The Genetic Opera".

They were in production concurrently for some time, actually. It's unclear to me whether or not there was any ripping off going involved; I'm pretty sure some of the people involved with the production of the movies actually had talked about the concept at some point, meaning that it's neither a case of coincidence nor ripoff.

That being said, two movies being produced within such a short period of time and having pretty much the same (weird) concept is kind of silly.
