Custom engravings
« on: December 07, 2007, 03:26:00 pm »

At the moment the ways in which we can leave clues as to how things work for adventurers, or even for ourselves in dwarf mode, are very limited. Usually it involves digging out rock in some sort of big pattern.

I think this should be made simpler by allowing engravings with specific text, or with a new furniture item called "signpost" or "plaque". It will really help when managing many mechanisms in a fortress, and it will also be possible to create intricate riddles for visiting adventurers.

I can imagine how the riddles might work... First a plaque or sign asking the riddle, then two (or more) levers with plaques over each of them with possible answers. Pull the right lever and enter the treasure chamber. Pull the wrong lever and get flooded with magma, forever sealing the entryway.

Who needs adventurer tips when the fortress will live forever  ;) Custom engravings would be nice, but I think it'll be wasted if they're made with adventurers in mind.

What's wrong with designing a fortress with adventurers in mind?
