Mining Carts
« on: December 07, 2007, 03:06:00 am »

Just a random thought, and it's hardly essential to the game, but it would be kind of neat (IMHO, anyway).

It'd be cool if you could use metalsmithing to build rails with mining carts. The carts would work just like a 'zone'; dwarves would dump designated items in them (stones, wood, whatever the cart was set to accept). Once full, a dwarf would hop aboard the cart and propel it towards its destination node. This way, you can expand over an entire map without your supply lines being horribly stretched. Of course, there's always the risk of accidents, especially if you accidentally set up opposite-direction routes along the same rail..

Yeah, I know this would be a horrible programming headache. So, an apology to the devs for suggesting it. But it *would* be kinda neat..

This has been suggested many times and everyone agrees they would be nifty if handled well.   Which is good, because that is the only way Toady handles things.
