So there was a bunch of miasma in my dining hall...
« on: September 13, 2009, 04:21:12 pm »

...And I was trying to find a source body, to mark for dumping. After looking and waiting for a while, I figured out where the miasma was coming from: a table in front of my mason. But there was no body there. And my mason had puppy blood spatters on his mouth and face, but nowhere else.

Did he eat it?

Maybe your dwarfs were faster than you and already cleaned up? Miasma seems to be rather persistent Ôo

What likely happened it someone sat down to eat at the table and then something caused them to cancel eating. They left the food in the table and wandered off, eventually grabbing other food. The food then sat there, outside of a stockpile, and rotted. You can see it by hitting T and going over the table, assuming it hasn't rotted away yet.

I've had it happen very rarely in some of my forts, along with food getting knocked out of backpacks while wrestlers are sparring and then rotting on the floor (because it still belongs to the guy who picked it up, so no one will pick it up).

Ohhhhhh, that explains that cave lobster in my barracks that no-one would touch despite having dozens of out of work haulers.

With that, plus the scattered clothes and fighting, it looked like a university dorm.

Yeah, food on tables is actually in the table, you won't see it by using K.

I had an image of a dwarf with puppy blood on his face in the place of the Adorable Liar Child with Chocolate on His Face that inevitably will make the top three on America's Funniest Home Videos every time it appears on that show.

"Did you eat the puppy?"
"Noooo..."
"Are you SURE you didn't eat the puppy?"

More like "Did you just eat the entire stockpile Fuzzy Wamblers i had specially stacked up in an unreachable location after desperately fighting every single Dwarf all over the Fortress who immediately homed in on them and tried to eat them? After i carefully went and found you, who supposidly hate Fuzzy Wamblers, just so this wouldn't happen?"
*With mouth full of Fuzzy Wamblers* "Nouwff."

I've just spend at least a minute laughing at that, thanks for that :)

What kind of statues are your masons making, that you think they have "maximum exposure"?
(Full frontal ones, apparently.  With very short beards.)
