There are cases where the cheaper processors are the same as the faster ones, just steped down in speed. They do this so that they only have one processor to manufacture with one cost, though they are sold for different prices.

I've also seen this done with hard drives and usb thumb drives too.

There is so no point whatsoever in overclocking your system these days. Seriously.

Uhhh sorry.

I overclocked my $200 i7 920 d0 stepping from 2.66 ghz base to 4.0 ghz, where it outperforms the base $1000 intel i7 extreme model.

With this I am able to achieve 1500+ AI on games such as ArmA2 as well as render video edits at blistering speeds. DF, even on a single core of the i7, blows away performance on my old E8500 overclocked to 4.0 ghz.

If I could have gotten that much performance for the price I would have gone AMD, because they don't retardedly gimp their processors as badly as intel in order to make a profit, but you can't blame me for "ricing" my computer to make it a monster because I'm not wanting to spend $2500 on it. All it required was $50 investment on a good cooler and Arctic silver thermal grease.

*Spent less than $900 on my current main build altogether.

i too load up my comps with fans. the confetti reference mad me lol.

i dont realy bother overclocking now, but i used to in the past.

one of my freinds was an avid overclocker, to the point that he had LiNi on hand for some of his more insane overclocks (the gloves he had bought to hadle the stuff were almost a $100, 2 layers of wool, and a special low temp rubber/plastic that would not shatter if frozen). he had a mobo on the wall that he had actualy caught on fire from dumping so much juice in it (it was for a P3 chip if i remember correclty), and also had one of those portable ac systems ducted straight into his gaming rig, and then back outside. he spent a lot of $$ on hardware he had to replace. . .

I just put a bigger fan on mine...

Stock wasn't good enough to keep my system from overheating while running Windows.

Turned off temperature in the init file, and framerate jumped from about 50 to over 200.

Got one of those for me 4600+ x2. Runs 31-33 idle and 47-49 full constant load.

Nice, isn't it?  And not too hard on the wallet (got mine for about $60).

I do keep wondering if (and when) it'll turn green. :P

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

I'm almost certain you don't need to light copper on fire for it to oxidize...

Hehe!   ;D

I love how when a thread has proceeded past its useful life, it always lives on with some chit chat.

I'm sure a little lignite bomb could heat up the coils a tad.
