Liasons/Immigration stuff
« on: September 18, 2009, 06:58:10 am »

Just got to my 2nd year. I've only got the dwarven traders though... No liasons, no humans/elves, no immigrants either... Is this normal?

My imported is higher than my exported though.

(And I'm trying to flood my fortress, and it's been hard... Stupid shallow river.
Actually, I'm trying to irrigate my farm, but the farm patch is pretty big, and is in the center of my fort... The parts I use have been closed off by doors... My stockpiles won't mind the wetting right?)

The immigrants aren't dependent on the liason, only on the caravan.

It's possible that you chose a civ whose last mountainhome was destroyed but there are still a few members alive that have fled. You may also be in a place where only dwarves can access.

In the civ screen, I can only see Goblins/Kobold and my own civ.

My own civ doesn't have any leaders listed though.... But I did gen'ed another copy with the same conditions and the legends did say the king and liasons exist.

It's the Dwarven Dream map BTW, with some reaction additions.

If there are no leaders listed, then chances are the civilisation went extinct.

Dwarven traders will always come, regardless of civilisation, location, or anything else.

You can also not see humans/elves in the 'c'ivilisation screen until you've seen them.

What kind of statues are your masons making, that you think they have "maximum exposure"?
(Full frontal ones, apparently.  With very short beards.)

During the first year, you typically will only get a dwarven caravan (in autumn) - if you trade with them decently, you should get elves and humans during the 2nd year (if they're available).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I saved a copy and abandoned that... It does seem that my civ got killed... 100 years ago... No idea why I could start out with nice items though. Had plenty of meat choices....

Half a mind to regen the world, and play again, with a living civ instead...
