Dwarf fortress needs more WAR!

We are all waiting patiently for the new version to come out, but until then, I've been hoping for more combat in fortress mode.  Goblins are the only civ that consistently raid, but after a few years, just a few champions will wipe out the whole siege.  Humans and elves, no matter how many times you seize their trade goods, won't declare war.  I've never been able to kill diplomats or traders.  Either the support doesn't fall at the right time, pumping magma to the surface is a cpu intensive task and very difficult.  For these reasons, dwarf mode, for me at least, is becoming repetetive and easy, and I find myself growing bored. 

I DONT WAN'T THAT!

I'm currently considering downloading the civilization forge mod for the extra races and extra sieges to spice up the game.  I've tried modding the civs to make them siege, but I haven't yet succeeded.
If anyone has any advice for me to add more difficulty to the game, even if it is economic, but preferably more war, I'd love to hear it.  I just want to actually lose a fortress to a siege for once in my time playing this game.

if you add the baby snatcher tag to a race, they will start sending sieges just as often as the goblins, with the side effect of..Well, baby snatchers.

What kind of statues are your masons making, that you think they have "maximum exposure"?
(Full frontal ones, apparently.  With very short beards.)

You can also remove the [CAN_SPEAK] tag.


Other suggestions are grab the Orc mod, or duplicate the goblin civ, or just make goblins bigger and meaner.


Check out the modding forum, you're not the first one to suddenly discover this problem, and there are plenty of solutions.

One could say that there are infinitely many solutions.  Killing your fort off with massive sieges of megabeast level creatures is actually rather easy.  Making it seem like a fair challenge is where things get difficult.

I don't think adding new siegers will do you much good, as your champions will probably beat everyone of the new races just as easily as they kill the goblins. You could either make the goblins stronger, or add a stronger race in, but just making the humans siege you... what's the point, again?

Humans are bigger than goblins.

How big you are plays Heavily in combat.  Therefore, humans are harder to kill than Goblins.

You can solve that by trying Dig Deeper, where the Orcs siege at insanely fast rates.  You'll be lucky if you don't get a siege your very first year.

You can solve that by trying Dig Deeper, where the Orcs siege at insanely fast rates.  You'll be lucky if you don't get a siege your very first year.

My earliest Dig Deeper siege occurred during the first dwarf caravan. Orc mod orcs may be stronger, but Dig Deeper orcs are, imo, more dangerous. Anyone can survive a siege three years in, it takes some real planning (I wouldn't go so far as to say skill, but definitely planning) to survive one three seasons in.

You could also try the Merloc mod. Merlocs aren't a civ, they're a wild animal with obscenely fast breeding and are both aggressive and social, meaning if you anger them you'll be dealing with a lot of angry fish-men. Not much of a threat late game, but early game they're more terrifying than even the orcs.

How many civilizations are we talking about here?
Assuming he's running Vanilla, Minimum of four *Humans, Elves, Goblins, Kobolds*...Would be nice if they rotate so each comes once a season, as I have a hunch if two came at the same time they'd wipe each other out...

If he's running mods...Eh

If you want a real challenge with your fort...What was the tags you need to add to Bronze Collossos's *CANT..SPELL* to make em into their own race and able to siege again?

If you want your battles to be more interesting there is a new thing I've tried. I pick a more rectangular map and wall in most of the map so the enemy will appear far away from the fort and have to cross a field to enter battle. My soldiers always fight them in the field. Other than training up to competant my warriors can only gain skills from battle. Obviously you're manually handicapping yourself but its pretty fun. Other than that, the LL mod does give some pretty awesome sieges.

Try out Civilization Forge for a bit and see if you like it. The extra races usually add a lot more combat (I've gotten a siege and two ambushes in one season before). It's mostly the Chaos Dwarves and Violet Xelics you need to watch out for, but enough attacks all at once and even Bugbears can be deadly.

If that's still too easy, try using the Unleashed version of Civ Forge. Frost Giants...I've lost a few forts to Frost Giant sieges before. The Dyansaurai attack early in that version, which can be deadly. The Hobgoblins attacking isn't a big deal usually, but they're at least tougher then goblins.
