How Can I lock my Fn key?
« on: September 13, 2009, 06:41:06 pm »

I got this shiny inspiron 1545 as a cheap upgrade from my previous laptop but unfortunately the F1, F2, etc keys are backwards from previous keyboards I have known: you need to press Fn to access the F1 key and the normal press accesses other features like brightness. So I'd like a way to lock the Fn key to be always on for when I want to use the F1 etc keys without frustration.
This pic helps explain a bit of what I'm talking about: http://www.trustedreviews.com/images/article/inline/10128-img8446s.jpg
I hope this all makes sense.

Hot damn that's lame. Take it back. It's obviously a bug.

Not a bug. My older Inspiron has the symbols reversed. The Fn buttons are always in blue while the normal keypresses are in whatever color your laptop producer decided on.

Macs are the same. Try taping something heavy enough to hold it down on the key.

But then, life was also easier when I was running around here pretending to be a man, so I guess I should just "man up" and get back to work.

Yeah, but macs give you the option to change it back.  Perhaps there's such an option on this one?

Get used to it? Learn to use it, like it's your shift button :P

Hmm.. try and check your settings, maybe the manual. There might be an option. Failing that, try turn on numlock, scrolllock, etc. If you're lucky, numlock might work for the F0-F12 keys.
