Ur-Quan Masters (Net Play Thread)

Since the other thread is both spoiler heavy and mostly about the campaign, I started this thread to mostly ask -

Is anyone up for some online matches at some point? I'm no match for the league people, but some friendly matches would be really fun.

I'm interested. As you can see in my campaign game thread, I'm in need of some super melee practice. I'm in timezone GMT+8.

However I think lag might present a serious problem... but it's at least worth it to try. Perhaps a proper delay setting will make it less painful.

Ooh, I'm up for it.

Look up my thread here for the livestream channel. I have the game listed, and am not too keen with playing against the computer. I wanna play against another hunam. BTW, how are we going to tell the other IP address? Like, who's hosting?

Since I'm on the opposite side of the Earth (GMT+8) of most of you, I think it's best for me to schedule it ahead of time instead of checking if anyone's online before playing... much better chance of meeting another player online that way.

If you can decide on a time to play, post it... I'll join if I can.

My SC2 skills have left me long ago, and it didn't help that Ur-Quan Master is much faster than what I remembered. I cannot use most ships effectively - I kept running into projectiles with Skiff too.

I'm in!

Though it has been several ...decades? since I played supermelee agains a human.
I wasn't an ace then either, but it's fun.

Note for noobs: in melee the VUX ship has an abillity in addition to campaign battlemode to compensate for it's slowness.

How does this work? We all download some hacked software and log directly onto eachothers' computers? or is there a sever set up someplace? Does one of us set up his PC as temporary server?

edit: I'm at london time...CET+1 IIRC.

direct IP connection - click "netplay" from the multiplayer menu. Go to Itnetlors chat, here: http://www.livestream.com/ItnetlolorsLettersOfUncertainty to exchange such info for now.

Night would better, since I have a fulltime job. ;) On Saturdays I'm available anytime; I can stay up until 1am for Sundays.

Without scheduling ahead, I won't be online at these periods (I'll be watching TV):

GMT+8 Wed. 2030-2330
GMT+8 Sun. 0000-0100

Wow, these matches have been pretty fun. Aside from the fact that netloler is the god of pkunk ressurections. (Damn you! I get one ressurection from 5 pkunk, he gets 8 and then 7 from 2!)

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in participating in some sort of quick tourney type thing over the next week, Any takers?

Beyond that, I've gotten an even more awesome idea that I'd like someone to try. I'm going to run my own "videogame" via the channel. I need a few people to sign up. I'll set up a campaign which will be played like an rpg here in the forums, but with space battles played via UQM. Once I get everyone set up I'm going to make a post about it, but would anyone who plays be interested in that?

Have you ever seen or played Starcon 1? It has a pretty interesting template for playing.

Of course, we may either have to use Paint or Excel to work it out.

Draw a map, link the stars to each other, and each player get 3 action points to use. Either move, make a ship (from a starbase), with the costs that come with them. and using a RNG, throw random stuff out (Like spontaneous reinforcements or something). I dunno, you'll have to play Starcon 1 to see what I'm talking about.

yeah. played that on a sega machine... a dreamcast? Anyway I always had to play the alliance and my friend slayed with the hierarchy.

Lets see,
create colony : recrew ships at location
explore system/planet : can find RDN artefact or special
build starbase : can build ships
build mineral mine
build research post ?

artefacts. dynamo, booster...?
