Prospecting 'Cheat'?
« on: October 09, 2009, 03:06:14 pm »

Hey, is there some sort of tool what will tell me in a separate window similar to 3Dwarf but where all the minerals and stuff are shown? I need to find some Iron for my one-dwarf challenge... Thanks!

Proper English will make people take you more serious.
In order to improve the universe's frame rate, we must all throw rocks into volcanoes and then do absolutely nothing, worldwide, for a week, to take pressure off pathfinding.

You can use Reveal to unhide the entire map. Make sure you save beforehand, however, and preferably restart after you find what you're looking for, as it can screw up your ability to grow tower caps/build magma buildings (if you haven't found the underground river/pool or the magma pipe yet), and just looks obviously cheated in general when you're done.

The Visual Fortress tool can reveal hidden tiles outside of DF, shows things in color, and will slice the z-levels so you can view them separately.  Or maybe that's the Khazad 3-D fortress viewer.  They should both be on the Community mods and Utilities thread under the Modding subforum.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

It's also able to reveal the exact location of HFS as well.

I was thinking of implementing it into my megaproject somehow like Cid's dreams get much more crazy, and he decides to mine into the underworld or something.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I say Vis-fort is better, seeing as it won't affect the game aside from spoiling the geology.

Yea, visual fortress has the same capability, although there are a few issues with bieng able to tell apart some stone types as they are the same or similar colors.

Although if you want to be able to tell what exactly you have, you'll have to use reveal.
