Circular designation painting
« on: August 26, 2006, 05:34:00 am »

Add a toggle between painting in a square shape or painting in a circular shape when designating mining/tree chopping etc. Circle would have centre at the start of painting, and end of painting location would determine its radius.

Despited being a dead topic... this would be a nice touch to the designation menus.

Yes, but then all my frustration in trying to make a perfect circle would be for nothing!

It would be nice. Maybe designate the diameter instead. But, take heed of the cautionary tale "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie." Where's my diamond-shaped brush? What about 3-D designations?  ;)

Radius is far more intuitive.  The other option is the way MS Paint does circles, with the annoyance being "I'm not sure where I need my corners"

Personally I would like to be able to do layouts in circles.  To much of a pain to do it manually.

Even more important than being able to select circles is to allow diagonal movement in Dwarf Fortress mode.  Whenever that happens, non-rectangular fortresses are finally going to get the time they deserve.

Dwarves will be able to move diagonally in the new release.

How about adding a way to do templates? If you're like me your fortress consists of four or five shapes repeated over and over. It would make my digging a lot faster if could just use a rubber stamp and *donk* *donk* *donk* *donk* and the space for my entry hall and defenses is done. *donk* *donk* *donk* *donk* and I have living spaces, etc.
