Select trap height. Also about harmless enemies
« on: September 04, 2009, 06:47:14 pm »

Should be able to set the height of each weapon in a trap so that you can make it attack different parts on a standard height person, select the height as an integer related to the size tag of creatures/ feet or something.

Also if I chop off a goblins feet by setting a serrated disk to the ground almost then I should be able to knock him out or maybe lassoo him using my military?

Estimating the height of a given body part is difficult because it requires you to make assumptions about the creature's stance/posture.  I don't think even the next version will contain enough information about creatures to simulate this in a reasonable way.

But you can fairly assume that a creature of size 6 will have a posture that puts their head at size 6 height. kobolds could be 400 feet tall, but if they walk in a way that puts them at size 5, that's that.

size 1 in going to be more likely to hit the legs or feet of things, but I'm sure Toady (armok be with him) could put in adjustable traps and where they hit would be a function of trap height and creature size. Placing things higher up gives you lots of torso and head shot possibilities, while low traps will catch all-comers in the feet (not too useful)

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.
