Whats your Best fight in dwarf fortress?
« on: September 19, 2009, 11:58:48 am »

Well i just want to see other people's funny/interesting fight.
Well i started a new fort a few day ago, and i trained a marksdwarf  up to High Master and he was out on patrol when he got ambushed by about 8 or so goblins, he managed to take out 4 with his crossbow before he ran out of ammo, but i usually see them run off to get ammo, however he was brave and charged the goblins and beat them all to death with his Crossbow as a club, im really surprised how good he did, he didn't even get hurt at all. also had an intresting thing happen as well. a snatcher tryed to take one of the children, the kid got away and ran around the map for about 5 mins he got back to the fort and the goblin got one shotted by a Macedwarf was rather funny, the kid took the goblin right into the fort. Its been a interesting few days.

Well, this one time a Goblin Child Molester tried to sneak in right when the human caravan was arriving... Walked RIGHt into the wagon's path. Wagon goes right over him, both horses prolly threw a kick in for good measure. So he's on the ground unconscious, and a maceman walks right up and BAM, corpse in the brook a good 20 squares away.

But my FAVORITE, is in the succession game I'm currently playing. My avatar is the Hammerer... (hehe...) I built him his own 21x21 room with a lava moat and a drawbridge that raises on the other side, so when he pulls the lever he's sealed in. I also put a bunch of goblin cages in. Connect them to another lever in his room. Seal the room, and pull the lever. Six terrified goblins trying to get away but NOBODY CAN ESCAPE THE HAMMER OF DWARVEN JUSTICE! INTO THE LAVA! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Doesn't seem to mind the bloodstains all over the floor :P

Well this one time, I attacked the HFS with my entire fortress population, every singly dwarf was drafted. While my dwarves were busy dying horribly a orc siege showed up, FUN  :D .

lol talk about a big room, my poor dwarfs only get a 4x4 unless they are in the military or a noble *grumbles* i like the lava moat tho lol.

not sure what you mean by HFS, but usually seems that a siege shows up at the worst time possible.

My personal favorite one was in my first fort. My Mayor/Hammerlord takes on an entire goblin siege.

She kinda died, but it was pretty cool seeing a dwarf with about eight crossbow bolts stuck in various places still go on to break a siege.

Early on, a Hydra appeared, no crippling injuries or anything (rarity!) and I aimed to make it the first feature in my Megabeast Zoo. So, I pulled every civilian inside, sealed every exit except one, and loaded that with terrarium traps. Behind that was my small but enthusiastic guard army, just in case it managed to get through two rows of traps.

The Hydra ran up to the entrance, but veered away. I saw that it had seen a Marksdwarf returning with a shiny new piece of equipment, most likely from the corpses of a caravan attacked by goblins recently. Watching in horror, I expected the Hydra to gut the Dwarf, then get caged. A small price for an impressive creature.

However, the Marksdwarf was having none of that. His quiver full of iron bolts was too easy for him, so he ran up and melee attacked with the (iron) crossbow. In barely a second, he tore out three of the throats, gouged out half its eyes and inflicted a mass of lesser injuries all over it. Understandably, the Hydra was incapacitated. Then Marksy ran back four squares, and pumped five bolts rapid-fire into it. Enraged that it had not died yet, he charged it one final time and executed it with a swing of his crossbow.

He had no skill at all in Hammers or Wrestling, and was only average in shooting. He took no injuries.

I was torn between rewarding him for slaying so incredibly, and magma-ing him for ruining my future zoo.

Apparently having a redundant creature entry causes the game to say, "Oh, look, it's crazy world now. Nothing makes sense! Alligators live in houses!"

A legendary miner discovers a goblin ambush. Without drafting him, he kills all 8 gobbos just through dodging and counterstriking. Only would was a light gray blow to his pancreas, which heals before the battle is over.

Another good one was when the goblin ambush snuck into my fortress and got behind my fortifications. My legendary marksdwarves managed to cut them down through the walls, with only one dwarf injury (a brown/red foot wound that healed to gray before the battle ended).

Playing Neoadept's zombie mod, I had a fairly established fort with a moat and well-trained military.

A big bunch of zombies showed up, so I pulled up the drawbridge to protect the civilians but first let the army out to go and fight with melee weapons.

One of them hit a zombie and knocked it across the moat into the 'safe' area, where it ran around slaughtering my civilians; I had to draft most of them and they eventually brought it down but at the cost of around 8 dead and several with missing limbs.

Legendary miners are badasses, I've had one do this too. He earned a snazzy title and my engravers had plastered the dining room with images of the battle before he even made it back to the fort (news travels fast, I guess).
