How do I resize the screen?

I've seen screenshots where people have almost doubled the viewable area in-game, and I'd like to know how this is done please.  :)

Edit data/init/init.txt, particularly the GRID setting (or FULLGRID if you're running fullscreen).

Note that if you run 40d16, you can just resize the window while it's running.
