Is there any way to make items stay put when revisiting old forts?
« on: September 29, 2009, 09:48:28 am »

Would making a room sealed by a floodgate or drawbridge force items to stay inside that room once it is sealed? Or will simply locking a door do the same thing?

I can't move my artifacts from their wooden bins to platinum bins now since most of them came from when before my fort was abandoned then reclaimed, so I can't get them out of their bins by ordering a weapon trap be built with them.

No, only using platinum or lead will keep them from moving.

If you can stick it in a Platinum or Lead bin/Barrel that'll work just as well.

I've never heard of this platinum and lead thing.  What's the reason for it, just a random programming glitch?

I believe that their distance from their original location is determined by their weight.

But gold is heavier than lead, and silver is pretty close to lead.

Oh, alright.

What if as an adventurer I place the bins containing my artifacts in a certain room in the abandoned fort, then place some steel and platinum to weigh down the bins? If I come back as a new adventurer will they stay in the same place I put them?

EDIT: Just tried it, it worked. Wooden bins didn't move with Platinum bars in them.

Simple solution:
Edit the density/weight of every material to equal that of platinum or lead in the raws. Thus even wooden objects stay in place, because they weigh as much as lead does.

Did you try a control?  As in, when switching adventurers, does stuff move or is it only when you abandon forts?

Stuff continues to move even if you don't switch adventurers, I think.

New question, do items stay in buildings like the trade depot?

I haven't personally tested the trade depot, but they definitely stay in workshops.  I imagine that extends to all buildings that can hold items.
