Audio cleanup

Not sure if this should be in suggestions or bugreports.

Since I've gotten df, I've heard this really annoying hiss in my Plantronics Audio 500 headphones when I played. I'd usually just turn off the sound. With a new dev version out though, I'm wondering if this should get addressed.

And I'd hear this annoyingness consistently in 2.5k and in slightly lesser knots of higher frequency. I was wondering if anybody else was having this issue (it's in the recording) or was it just the built in eq on my headphones and should I just go eq and reprocess the oggs for my own enjoyment?

I've reprocessed the main song to take out what I think is air in the recording?

it's 3mb, just drop it in, tell me if I'm crazy or not.

I can't tell over the sound of my teeny tiny fan working its arse off to dissipate heat while playing DF.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Sounds fine on a pink noise sweep. Anyway, I'm only hearing the air in song_game not song_title, if that makes a difference?

Im getting this too, but not just while playing DF. If I get a message from a steam friend, a wierd "piewwww" sound will play through my headphones, and its not the steam sound. I think its just the processor or something playing through headphones, I really have no idea.

There is a rather annoying noise playing underneath the DF music, particularly the in-game track as opposed to the menu one. Especially noticeable at higher volume levels.

I'd imagine its background noise from when Toady recorded it. What exactly does it sound like?

Just a whiny, buzzing sort of microphone noise, I suppose; high-pitched, sorta grating, almost static-y but not. I'm no audio expert by any means, and my description will likely be totally useless in conveying the actual sound; just crank the volume way up, and it's fairly obvious; I don't think it's high-pitched enough to be outside the range of an average person's hearing.

Its probably just the equipment used to record it. I don't usually have the music on, let alone have it on loud. When I get the chance I'll check it out.
