(bloat suggestion) children -> (narrow) clothing
« on: February 24, 2008, 11:17:00 am »

Minor bloat idea:
Children could claim and equip narrow items, and drop them when they grow up.

(This could add to the atmosphere? Could also result in lots of hauling tasks whenever someone grows up, so on 2nd thoughts, probably it's not that great an idea overall?)

I don't think it would fit them. Too long, and possibly still too narrow.

Remember, they are DWARVES. Dwarves are born fat. They often look like hairy spheres on their first day or so.

You won't have trouble supplying the Countess with cats, or producing the annual idols to be offerred to the castle. Every fortress is a pale reflection of Ghormenghast..

That said, it does make sense that dwarven children need different clothes than adults. Perhaps when multiple raw entries can exist for the same civ we can start to implement things like this?

Come to think of it, there where some suggestions for "tailoring" for clothes that would make nobles more happy. Besides, we can assume that the kids just get really baggy clothes that they can let out.

I already suggested once before the implementation of a FAMILY or SPECIES raw that organizes several animals of different types into a whole species. Much like an entity raw, a family raw would consist of a series of tokens that designated the lifecycle of a species. The tags BABY and CHILD would be removed from current creature files and instead would fall under the family raw. For example dwarven species could consist of [ADULT :DWARF:<age>] the children [CHILD :DWARF_CHILD:<age>] and babies [BABY :DWARF_BABY:<age>] Additionally, there could be an [EGG:<egg>], [EGG_EDIBLE_RAW] and [EGG_COOKABLE] tokens.

Furthermore, multiple ADULT tokens can lay the framework for multiple species within a race. Entity files would be modified to use the species designation instead of a creature designation.

I'd prefer if we could get them to wear full plate armor so they don't get mauled by the hammerer on the first day of being an adult because they destroyed a table when they were young.

Armored hairy spheres > hairy spheres.
My idea wins.
