How do I separate non-narrow clothing from narrow clothing?
« on: August 11, 2009, 01:18:32 am »

After every goblin siege, I grab up all the valuable giant cave spider clothes that drop and use them as trade goods.

The problem is, the clothes that I'm making for my poor naked dwarves are being mixed into the same bins, and then get traded away.

I know you can set unusable armor and weapons do different stockpiles, but clothing falls under "Finished Goods".

How? I've tried separating them by material type, but it never seems to work.

u and j set the unusable and usable options.

I've never bothered messing with those, though. I always just stick all lower quality metal pieces into one stockpile near my smelters.

There is a switch for "armor" stockpiles (all clothing is "armor" in some sense) in the lower right corner of the <q, s> sub-menu - u/j - usable and unusable.  That's what you want.

Tried that, the dwarves just don't store the clothes at all when I do that.

Then no. Anything else is  "Finished Goods", and non-sortable by size.  Only by quality and material, which might be a start.

. are you messing with the quality section or materials section at all?

Yes, it says it'll take clothing inside armor stockpiles, but dwarves won't carry clothes into armor stockpiles.

It's really just easier to level your weaver enough that he never, ever, makes "standard" quality silk gear. The amount of invader gear that is higher than "standard" is something you can deal with on a piece by piece basis.

What -I- want to do is sort these two things: "Narrow cave spider silk sock" and "Narrow giant cave spider silk sock."

If there was an easy way to sort them, it would be a hell of a way to get a hefty chunk of cash into a single bin.

The "S"earch option on the "Bring to Depot" menu works well for this if they aren't already in bins. (That "S" option should be on roughly forty other screens, IMNSHO.)

Well, with CS silk and GCS silk, that's easily done under 'material' options, I think.

For seperating goblin-size from dorf-size, a little creative stockpiling is in order. I suggest citing a dump zone near the entrance, and piling all the goblin crap there before reclaiming it, with a stockpile underneath it for the trade goods.

For the dwarven clothing, site the loom and clother shop from that dump zone by a good horizontal distance. Dwarves pick the closest stockpile first.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.
