In my current game a while ago, I had accidentially tricked the elves into bringing lots of wood. I have about 2,000 wood in stockpile and when a no moodable skill child went fey, I forbid all of the wood that I had as I didn't want a woodcrafter, and wood was apparentlty the only thing the kid wanted.

Edit: Also, I've never had an Elven trade liason.

Elves won't send a liaison unless you mod one in. They will send a pointy eared bastard to restrict your wood-cutting and insult your height (if you think you can take em, drown the sob), but the little jerks refuse to negotiate trade alliances. You can't even request more 'kosher' wood from them.

Seriously though. I don't understand them buying dwarf sized clothing, and I don't understand them trying to sell the dwarves elf sized clothing. Seems kind of pointless.

Well them buying dwarf-sized clothing makes sense if you imagine them trading with the other dwarf civilizations as well.

You might be able to trick them into bringing lots of wood as I unintentionally did, but the dwarven and human caravans are much more reliable on that. Although sometimes the dwarves seem to have a wood shortage and don't bring a whole lot, but any amount is welcome when you're in a treeless desert.

Maybe if you remove TREE_CAP_DIPLOMACY from their entity file?

Seems kind of pointless.

They're trading for profit, not for survival (like dwarfs might be).  You can buy large items, decorate them, and sell them back - profit.  (Of course, it's a royal pain, but it does work.)
