I once tried something like that.

This was before I knew that, apparently, cave-ins go through floors.

Lost most of my legendary miners.

Worst part was, the dwarf I was trying to chop was killed by the cave-in. Blaaaah.

Heh, cave-ins going through floors is quite handy when redirecting\blocking rivers, or sealing up glowing pits.
