Pig Iron Item - At Last!
« on: October 22, 2009, 05:48:48 pm »

After all the nobles requesting impossible pig iron items, a moody Dwarf finally made one!   :D

A nice piece of armor. Pretty heavy though.

Just hope it doesn't shatter when the dwarves are taking it to the stockpile.

This sort of thing can only happen with artifacts, I'm afraid. I'm not even sure if that can fill a mandate.

Don't pig iron bars count towards those mandates?

Usually yes, unless the noble requests pig iron goblets or something.

Usually yes, unless the noble requests pig iron goblets or something.

Does that ever happen, though? In the two successful forts I've done, I've only ever gotten mandates for items of a specific type (e.g. Make 3 amulets) or items of a specific material (e.g. Make 2 Electrum items), never items of a specific type and material. Of course, I've always kept my nobles happy, so it's possible that unhappy nobles will do that...

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

That is correct. Mandates include either a material or an item type. Demands include both.

Urist McNoble:  I demand an adamantine harp!  Encrusted with crystal glass, and yellow diamonds and dragon bones, with strings made from giant cave spider silk!

Urist McCraftsdwarf:  Sure, sure.  Its ready and waiting for you, out on that platform over the magma.  Just pull that lever and it will fall into your hands... *chuckle*

I had a tigerman get elected mayor and he promptly mandated 3 bowls of cereal.

Since it was brought up, do appropriate artifacts fill a mandate by their part? Sure, the chances of that happening are pretty low, but is it possible?

I would guess that with how arbitrary demands are and how rare moods are, nobody's successfully created an artifact that met a noble's demands. Might be able to force this with Dwarf Companion and find out, though the results would be suspect due to cheating.

Demands are safe to ignore, although I think your bookkeeper won't do any more stockwork until the demand is filled, but that may be hearsay.

Your appointed dwarves generally deserve what they ask since they work hard.

Which appointed dwarf ever Mandates anything?

Its always these pesky "Has been elected" or "Has arrived" slackers that do nothing but "be there"  ;D

The only possible way your bookkeeper could have a demand is if you assigned the position to your Mayor (though in both of the long-lived fortresses I've played, I've never gotten a demand from a Mayor).
