Separate animals, vermin, and humanoids in the refuse menu
« on: August 06, 2009, 08:45:11 pm »

When designating a refuse stockpile, you may want different stockpiles for different things - for example, a stockpile for horse corpses next to a butcher's stockpile might be desirable if you're hunting for food or were just swarmed by rhesus macaques, and you may want it separate from the vermin corpse stockpile (which may be outside or just somewhere else) and the humanoid stockpile (which may be somewhere else to let them rot away until you can make crafts from their bones). Currently, all corpses are lumped together, but it would make designating these different stockpiles much easier if they were categorized as different types of corpses, considering all three have different uses.

You can already do this. (Q)uery your refuse stockpile, then select (s)ettings. Push the right arrow key to move to catgories, then move down to "corpses." Press right again. Now you can disable the kinds of corpses you don't want in the stockpile by selecting them with the up and down arrows and pressing Enter.

Go through and count all the corpses in that menu. I can wait, go ahead.

My suggestion was to separate those into different categories of corpses. Humanoid corpses, for example, can be valuable if you let them rot away into bones, animal corpses can be butchered, and you want vermin corpses as far away from your dwarves as possible.

This is more of a streamlining thing than a gameplay issue, but seeing as how the three corpses are functionally different, I think they should be listed separately.

I agree, it is needlessly tedious to have to manually disallow all sentient corpses from my butcher's stockpile
