If I build a floor above the bottom floor of the chasm then put water in it would it flood and kill them?

yeah, so long as it doesn't cave in. i had a waterfall rigged to dump water into a chasm and then hit a floor 3-4 z-levels down.

I tried this and it didn't work very well, I drowned about one third of the chasm creatures but the rest just turned into ultra strong legendary swimmers.

So water must be pumped faster than they train. Pffft... Easy

My underground river with the outside river should work but i'll put a floodgate there just incase it brings carp then i'll pour lava in.

Magma is knida out of the option due to the gcs guarding it and i'm using that and the water for the HFS.
