Illium and it's sequel Olympus match up to your criteria pretty well, aside from being free, (they're both pretty cheap in paperback though, and well worth it)

You'd probably like Texhnolyze - very stylish, arty anime. Takes place in an unspecified relatively near future time (probably not more than 70-80 years from now).

Main character is a boxer participating in illegal (I think) fights - it's implied in the beginning of the first episode that he just killed somebody in the ring. His manager (who forces him to have sex with her before she gives him his pay for the fight) is a sadist who has cybernetic eye implants. There's a fair amount of cybertech in the world; sort of Shadowrun-ish. Also some sort of youkai/spirit/little psychic girl (I haven't finished watching the series yet [even though it's only 26 episodes], so I'm a little shy on some of the details).

It's by the same director who did Serial Experiments: Lain (Abe Yoshiteru) so that may give you an idea of whether or not you'll like it.

Alastair Reynolds' novels are brilliant, I'm working my way through the series again at the moment. Start with Revelation Space. You want Hard SF? This guy hasn't given up his day job; he's an astrophysicist...

Here's something that meets all of your criteria, barring the last couple.  Tropes are not bad, after all.

It is an audio drama called I love Bees.  I will tell you no more, and allow the work to speak for itself.

Just remembered another two series of books for you, which begin with:
Godplayers by Damien Broderick
and
The Court Of The Air by Stephen Hunt.

You should also read Steven Hall's The Raw Shark Texts
