[40d] Dwarven Incest?
« on: July 29, 2009, 11:20:18 am »

So I have a Queen. On her relationship screen, the King Consort is listed as her husband. When I look at his relationship status, she is listed as his Aunt.

Are Dwarves supposed to have family sticks instead of trees?

This was actually normal in the middle ages, nobles wanted to preserve their blood lines by only marrying within their social class so the higher their social standing the smaller the family tree.

Oh, I know. But normally it was going to your cousin, not aunts.

Uncle / niece marriage was common too (eg. the Hapsburgs). Aunt / nephew, not so much, but dwarves are an egalitarian and long-lived lot.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Yeah. If you aren't going to marry your family then there's pretty much no-one else left...

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

I seem to recall some time ago pre-.40d that there were unintended cases of incest in a bug report and that Toady had a look at it.  I am not sure what the outcome was but I think it is due to be looked at again and that it is a bug as it stands now.

There have been a couple of threads about this subject since .40d.

IIRC this is mostly a problem in smaller (i.e. pocket) worlds - there simply isn't anyone else around to breed with due to low population limits.

Not sure if it's a bug or a feature, to be honest.

I would think it would also be a problem for civs that are just starting or otherwise on the verge of collapse.
