Do not go there! You will sink into the sea and never be seen again!

Just lay off of it for awhile. You might consider getting an ace wrap to support it when you shuffle around.

If you can, keep up your fitness by doing some low-impact aerobic exercises like swimming. When I gimped my foot from a work injury I swam back and forth across one of the few public lakes safe to swim in.

Aerobic fitness goes away very quickly without constant excercise. A month or two off your feet will pretty much put you back to square one.

Yeah, swimming would probably work, too.

We have a community pool right outside our doorstep, so I can do that. Is biking okay or does that put too much stress on the ankle?

it depends on the bike. If it's greased up pretty well and the pedals turn easily, it shouldn't be a problem.

Seriously, don't strain your ankle at all (even walking is bad), unless you have a spare set of tendons laying around.

I'm not an expert on foot injuries, but biking with a sprained ankle sounds like the opposite of a good idea.

You could certainly try riding a bike for exercise, it would be OK if you can excercise effectively without aggravating the injury. It really depends on whats messed up, some movements might prelude the use of the sprain and it would be fine. I lifted weights with a broken collar bone, I was just mindful to immobilize my shoulder when I did curls.

A stationary bike at the gym would be ideal. I'm not a big fan of riding bikes for excercise because its dangerous to go at the speeds you need to go to get a work-out from it. Good chance you will either hit a car, get hit by a car, or possibly both at the same time. Unless you have dedicated bike trails through the woods or something, I would be very careful about it.

My doctor said I can use my sprained wrist as much as I like, if I can stand the pain.

I started to go biking on pain meds, I dont know if that's what he had in mind.

My tip is: light exercise until you feel light pain. If the pain gets worse, STOP.
Dont overdo the cooling.
Be patient.

Oh yeah, and swimming is always good. Barely stresses such an injury, keeps you fit and probably speeds up the healing, too.

I say take this as an opportunity to increase upper body strength.
